Pursuing the possibilities of tomorrow
together with the world,
society, and you
When your thoughts turn to the future, we think of our customers and the many others we encounter along the way, bringing to mind all those who are so special. By giving form to each of the many possibilities, we seek to realize a world in which everyone can live comfortably.
A revitalization project that evokes a building’s historic appeal
Environmental action × problem solving
Capturing historic elegance, MIRAIZA OSAKA-JO is the result of a 2017 renovation that took a fresh look at what had originally been the Imperial Japanese Army’s 4th Division Command Center constructed in 1931 on the east side of Honmaru Palace. Now reborn as a complex facility, it combines a lively atmosphere with cultural heritage.
Project Key Data
This building was constructed in 1931, the same year as the present Osaka Castle tower, as a citizen donation-funded government building of the Army’s 4th Division Command Center. Over 90 years later, renovation work was undertaken to bolster earthquake resiliency, put in place disaster prevention equipment, and other measures to enable MIRAIZA OSAKA-JO’s reemergence as a safe facility. It has made a new start with a contemporary makeover as a tourism hotspot while remaining faithful to its historic importance.
Osaka Castle Park is a nationally designated special historic site and home to 13 important cultural properties. One of those is what was the Army's 4th Division Command Center, which after the war served as a police facility, and then as the much-loved Osaka City Museum. In this construction work, the design and materials used to complete the facility were carefully preserved and restored, and the beautiful exterior and entrance area were brought back to their original glory. Moreover, the building received the 40th Osaka Machinami Award.
BIZ Livness strategically reuses (CRE strategy) corporate real estate through brokerage, purchase and resale, and renovation. This is one of the measures we are taking to expand our circular value chain from the perspective of local communities and customers. During the Seventh Medium-Term Management Plan, we intend to use approximately \2.2 trillion in development investments to draw out regional potential and contribute to job creation and vitality.
We will keep on trying until we reach the goal Carving out a path towards carbon neutrality
Environmental action × problem solving
We generate renewable energy through a wide variety of methods such as solar, wind, and hydropower, but we are still a long way from achieving carbon neutrality.
We believe that the growth of our sustainability business will enable us to pass on a rich lifestyle to future generations, and we have begun efforts to realize a new goal.
Project Key Data
In biomass power generation, plant-derived resources are burned and gasified to generate electricity. The Daiwa House Group is proceeding with a plan to convert the Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant into a biomass-fired power plant to achieve carbon neutrality. Our business, which uses renewable energy to provide illumination for individuals and communities, is a growth-driven business that will realize our corporate purpose – The Year 2055, a Future in which People Can Celebrate the Joys of Life.
The biggest benefit of converting the Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant into a biomass-fired power plant is that it can significantly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane. We are considering a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 450,000 tons while maintaining conventional power generation output. We aim to solve the main drawback of renewable energy – that power output is dependent on the weather, which is changeable – thereby achieving a stable power supply.
In March 2024, mixed combustion power generation (70% coal, 30% biomass) at Hibikinada Power Station had ceased. After that, we will carry out a trial run aimed at converting it into a biomass-fired power plant, and will continue to confirm and verify each of the numerous processing stages. We aim to resume operations in a safe and secure manner in April 2026, 24 months later. You can look forward to seeing the new Hibikinada Thermal Power Plant, which will generate electric power from a new renewable energy source, complementing the already-established solar, wind, and hydroelectric power generation.
