The toilet tucked away in the greenery is named “Amayadori,” or a shelter from the rain. This time, we participated in the entire process of the project in which Mr. Ando comes up with the design, his office staff join to refine it, and we at Daiwa House Industry design its details. It was an invaluable experience for me to watch in person the design and supervision methods practiced by a world-leading architectural office. As he let us design the outdoor facility and a tactile map, we had an opportunity to enjoy creating a building together with them.

Just two weeks before the scheduled date of completion, we received a request from Mr. Ando to add a louver above the entrance, which was not in the plan. All parties—those in charge of architecture and construction, as well as subcontractors—got together in a hurry to discuss how to meet the request, and managed somehow to add the louver within the schedule. Once it was attached, we were all convinced that the louver had given the appearance a final touch, increasing the level of perfection. Mr. Ando kept considering ways to make the building even better until the last minute, which stimulated us greatly.
Looking back on the project
We shared a common goal of finishing this building true to the image envisioned by Mr. Ando. The goal has driven the project forward, promoting a spirit of teamwork to unite the members from design and construction sections. Partner companies and other parties also gave us great assistance. Thanks to all these efforts, we received words of appreciation from Mr. Ando along with a handwritten thank-you letter at the press conference after the completion. Participation in this project is a great experience I will remember for the rest of my life.
